Challenges Faced by the General Transcriptionists Today

General transcriptionists face a variety of challenges in today’s extremely competitive work environment. Transcription jobs are in high demand and to be successful, you must be both efficient and accurate. You also need to stay well-informed of the newest technological advancements and be able to offer the highest quality service at an affordable rate.

Job Security

General transcription is becoming an extremely popular occupation, especially with individuals who enjoy working from home and make a decent living doing so. General transcriptionists who have been working in the field for years are discovering that they now have to fight harder to get and keep clients. While many clients will remain with the same transcriptionist because they like the way their transcriptionist works, no job is guaranteed and it’s important to stay on top of things if you want to keep dedicated clients.

Consistently Meeting Deadlines

Consistently meeting deadlines with a high rate of accuracy and efficiency is the ideal way to keep clients in your corner. Maintaining a solid schedule that allows for breaks and time off will help you to stay ahead of your deadlines and give you enough time to yourself so you don’t get burned out. The ability to produce high-quality content and consistently meet your deadlines are two of the most important responsibilities of your job.

Keeping Up With the Latest Technology

Advancements in technology can keep you ahead of the game. Spell check programs, grammar monitors, and other editorial programs will help to keep your work free of errors and will catch different types of errors that may otherwise go unnoticed. These advancements can improve the quality of your work and will help you be as efficient as possible.

Maintaining Credibility

Many clients require 100% confidentiality. Whether you are working on hospital documents or legal briefs, the information that passes through your office must be kept private at all costs. Maintaining credibility is of the utmost importance. Individuals who work from home should keep their work away from family members and guests and maintain a completely confidential environment.

Long and Boring Files

Sitting down for extended periods of time can lead to body aches. No matter how urgent your work is, do not stretch yourself too hard. Take some time off to exercise. You can do some yoga, pace up and down a bit or change your sitting positions. When you resume working, you will feel refreshed.

Keep working on those boring files as there isn’t any shortcut to get them done!

Short Deadlines

Some tasks may be very difficult and come with short deadlines. Before accepting an assignment, inform the client whether you will be able to tackle their work on time. If you accept urgent transcription work, charge a bit more so that your effort will be worth it.

Difficult Clients

Once in a while, you will work with difficult clients. These clients may give you poor-quality audios or not pay on time. Let go of these clients. There are many businesses that need transcription work and you shouldn’t be tied down to clients that make you miserable.

Different Formatting Requirements

Clients may have different formatting requirements. Before submitting your transcription project, go through each client's requirements to ensure you have followed them accordingly. No matter the challenges you may face, remain focused. As you gain experience in transcription, you will enjoy the work even more.
